November 2011 Economic updatesIt is that time of year again when Christmas crackers and wrapping paper jostle for shelf-space with Halloween decorations. Where has the year gone? Each year the months seem to fly by even faster. We have a month left to the end of the year and how many of us have achieved our goals and objectives? Time has a nasty habit of stealing up on us whilst we are focused on day-to-day issues and as a result, our longer-term plans are set aside. We tend to focus on what is urgent rather than what is important. The only way to make sure that we deal with what is important is to have a plan in place with steps that we set in order to reach our goals. This month we look at a 12-step plan to get your finances in order. This plan is not time consuming; it just requires you to implement one financial step a month. By following the plan, this time next year you will hopefully not be wondering where the year has gone but rather feeling a sense of achievement. Because we believe so fundamentally in the need for a financial plan, Liberty is offering a prize worth R1 million to a client who undergoes a no-strings-attached Financial Needs Analysis. Not only will your finances be in order, you may just be the lucky person who kick-starts their financial plan with R1 million. The early arrival of Christmas decorations also offers an opportunity to plan your finances for the festive season. Start buying gifts and decorations ahead of time and spread the cost over two months rather than relying on your credit card and 13th cheque. At the end of this month, draw up a budget for your December spending so you do not start the New Year with a hangover. Kind regards Steven Braudo |
