Economic update

Our theme this month is about making sure you have provided financially for your future and any unexpected life events, so that you can sleep well at night.

But having “enough” is not just about savings and risk cover. It is also about having enough happiness and joy in your life; it is about finding the balance between living in the moment while preparing for tomorrow.

A question to ask yourself this month is, “what makes me happy”? Is it really the latest iPad or another pair of glam shoes? Or is it time spent sharing a glass of wine with friends or playing ball with your child? If you focus more of your time and energy on what brings you joy, you may just find that your finances improve and that you have “enough” in all aspects of your life.

Retirement bliss

Many of us have days where we wish we could just walk out the office and go and lie on the beach for the rest of our lives. The reality is that we would be bored stiff within two weeks and statistics show that people who retire later tend to live longer than those who don’t. But you do want to know how much you need to have stashed away to enjoy a comfortable retirement.

Death and disability are really not topics one wants to dwell on, but deep down we know we have to face our fears and put provisions in place in case the unthinkable happens. You need to understand both your liabilities and assets to make sure you have right cover.
