Stash is an app that invests small amounts of money in some of South Africa’s biggest companies. One of the most popular ways to stash – investing the spare change – is being replaced with a new feature called ‘Daily Stashing’.
When Stash was first launched by Liberty, it would use your bank’s transactional SMSs to detect every swipe of your debit, credit or cheque card. Stash would then collect your spare change and invest it in a tax-free savings account.
However, due to Google's new privacy requirements on its apps, small adjustments to the way the app works will be introduced. Stash previously used your bank’s transactional SMSs to work out what spare change to stash. From 20 February 2019, Stash will no longer have access to your SMSs in line with Google’s new privacy policy. The new feature ‘Daily Stashing’ allows users to stash starting from R5 a day. If you want to stash more, you can choose to invest up to R100 a day.
